Lessons From The Golf Pro – Beginner Golf 101

Perfecting your drive, chip and putts is just one side of learning to golf; understanding the game is a completely different approach. Many people are fearful of getting out on the course for lack of understanding about the game itself. Scoring, handicap and golf etiquette can be just as daunting as puting a club in your hand and hitting the ball. Here are a few tips that will make you feel like a pro in no time:

  • Do not bring your clubs in the club house
  • On the green do not walk on the line the other player will be using to putt the ball in the hole
  • Do not drive your golf cart on the green or in the bunkers
  • Use the rake to smooth out the sand in the bunker for the next player after hitting and/or walking in a bunker.
  • When driving a golf cart enter the fairway at a 90º degree angle
  • Make it a habit to wear a collared shirt, even though public courses do not always require one
  • Fix your divots (indentation in green made by the ball when it drops on the green) but if you are unsure how to do it leave it alone as you can do more damage to the course by doing it incorrectly
  • Do not talk when others are hitting the ball
